The department was established in the year 1995 with the motive of creating a holistic environment of business education, commerce, research and development under the faculty of commerce.

➢    About the Curriculum: The department has initiated the launch of the three-year Bachelor's Degree Program (6 Semesters) in Accounts Honours and Management Honours. The first undergraduate batch was in the year 1998 and the Post Graduate Batch was in the year 2011-12. Since 2017, the department has provided 35 UGC NET JRF candidates; UGC NET and MPPSC qualified candidates out of which 7 students are now providing their valuable services in the institution as faculties. After 2020, as per the New Education Policy, the curriculum is now known as B.com NEP 2020. 

➢    Establishment of Research Centre: The research centre under the faculty of commerce was established in the year 2015-16. Till then, there are 27 candidates who have been awarded the Ph.D degrees from the research centre. The department has 7 registered guides since 2015-2016, and 22 ongoing Ph.D research scholars as per 2022. The research areas includes marketing, finance, agriculture and rural development and on different areas of business and economy. 

➢    About the Faculty: The department consists of 24 faculty members who are having 40 plus years of experience in the field of education, teaching, research and development. All the faculties are qualified in Ph.D/NET.

➢    New Education Policy 2020: The department has initiated the launch of the NEP 2020 as per the Ordinance 14A of UGC and Department of Higher Education, Madhya Pradesh. The department has changed the Curriculum pattern as per the New Education Policy 2020. The B.com Honours Program for Accounts and Management running in the institution since 1995 is now B.com(NEP) 2020 program, which involves the Major Minor Generic Elective, Open Elective Subjects and Vocational subjects as per the ordinance.

➢    Commerce Society: The department has an active and vibrant commerce society which consists of the students of PG and UG Students who actively takes part in assisting the departmental activities and events taking place in the institution. 

➢    Departmental Activities: The department conducts various activities for students apart from teaching like cultural activities, Commerce Fest, Business Model Making Competition and curriculum based activities like trainings, expert lecture series, industrial visits, inter college competitions and creative activities at the departmental level, which help in the overall personality development of the students. To inculcate the habit of research, various research seminars at national level are also conducted. 

➢    Memorandum of Understanding(MOUs):The department has signed MOUs with Godrej Consumer Products Ltd., Institutional Level MOU with Bhopal School of Social Sciences-Institute of Advanced Studies(BSSS-IAS) and MP Bhoj University. The faculties are making continuous efforts to make the students aware of different dimensions of higher education through expert lectures, On-Job trainings under the supervision of senior Chartered Accountants. 

➢    Alumni Association: The department has established an Alumni Association in the year 2022 which is registered under the Co-operative Societies Act 1912. The Alumni association has the elected chairman and members, who actively takes part in the Association's activities, which also includes connecting with the past students with intention to involve them in institutional developmental activities. 

➢    Establishment of Business Administration Department: The faculty has started its separate subsidiary department of Business Administration in the year 2022. The department is well versed with the first batch of 85 students. The faculties teaching in BBA are UGC NET qualified. The future prospect of BBA Dept. includes the launch of an MBA program for higher learning in the area of Business and Economy
